TJLIT Ministry TorontoReaching the World for Jesus Greatly Simplified Bible Stories Page 1 1. The BeginningIn a town called Bethlehem there was a young lady named Mary. The Bible doesn’t say her exact age, but she was single and about to get married. She was a pure woman and her future husband was a nice man.An angel came down to earth and told Mary that God was pleased with her, and that God was with and supporting her. Mary was afraid at what the angel told her, but he told her not to be afraid because God was pleased with her. He then told her she would soon have a son whom she would call Jesus, and this Jesus would be great and would be called (and would be) the Son of God. The angel then told her Jesus would rule over Israel, and his kingdom would be forever.Mary politely asked the angel how this could be? because she was pure and single, so the angel told her that God would be the Father of baby Jesus because baby Jesus was the Son of God.Mary was amazed, and the angel also told her that her cousin Elizabeth was going to have a baby too, which was strange because Elizabeth was an old lady who couldn’t have babies. The angel told Mary that nothing was impossible for God.Mary told the angel she believed him, and said it would happen as the angel said.At this time there was a nice man named Joseph who was to be Mary’s husband, and because of his decent character he didn’t want to bring Mary to public shame, so he decided to break-off their engagement privately. However, one night in a dream, an angel of God told Joseph to not be afraid of the fact that Mary had a baby in her womb, because this baby was God’s Son, and He would be called Jesus, and He would save his people from their sins. This happened to prove what God had said many years before through the prophet Isaiah: that a pure woman would have a son and his name would be Immanuel. The word Immanuel means “God is with us.” Immanuel is Jesus’ real name because the name Jesus is the Greek way to say his name. The name Immanuel is found in Isaiah 7:14: “The Lord himself will give you a sign: “The virgin [Mary] will have a child, and He will be a Son, and will call Him Emanuel.The angel told Joseph to take Mary home and live with her as his wife, and because Joseph believed in God and the words he had heard, he did what he was told.In this first passage of the New Testament we see great faith as Mary accepts the Angel’s news that she is to give birth to Jesus Christ, the Son of God. She also shows great courage because to be a young girl, pregnant, single, and to say the Father is God – takes courage!Joseph also has faith, courage and decency because he readily accepted the words of the Angel in his dream to stay with and marry Mary.

Page 2 2. The birth of John the BaptistAt the same time, there was a man named Zechariah who had a wife named Elizabeth; moreover, she was the same Elizabeth who was Marys cousin. Zechariah and his wife were clean-living people who loved and respected God, but were sad because they were old and didnt have any children. Zechariah was a leader in the synagogue, which was the Jewish temple. On a particular day, it was his responsibility to do some work in the temple while the people prayed outside. As Zechariah was doing his work he was standing near a religious table in the synagogue -- when suddenly, standing at the right of it appeared an angel of God.Zechariah was afraid, but the angel told him not to worry, and that God had heard Zechariahs prayer to have a baby, and God was going to allow Zechariahs wife Elizabeth to have a baby. Zechariah was told the baby would be called John and would bring great happiness. John would have the Holy Spirit in him from birth the Bible says. The Holy Spirit is part of God and is God. We call this the Trinity. Trinity means a union of three: God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. John would never be allowed to drink wine or any other fermented drink. The angel said John would bring back many of the people of Israel to God.The angel told Zechariah that John would make disobedient people obedient and would get the people ready for Jesus arrival.Zechariah didnt believe the angel because he said he and his wife were old and therefore, she wouldnt be able to have a baby. The angel told Zechariah that because Zachariah hadnt believed the words of God, then he wouldnt be able to speak until the day the baby was born. This immediately happened, and when Zachariah went outside and the people realized he couldnt speak, they knew he had seen a vision.After work that day he went home to his wife. She was happy and thanked God for allowing her to have baby.After the angel left Mary, she went up into the hill country of Judea to visit Elizabeth, and as soon as Elizabeth heard Marys voice, the baby in her stomach started to jump around and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.In a loud voice Elizabeth said that Mary was the most blessed of all the women in the world, and the baby (Jesus) that she had in her womb was the most blessed of all. Elizabeth told Mary it was an honor to have Mary in her house, and asked why she herself (Elizabeth) was so blessed to have Mary visit her. She then told Mary that the moment she heard Marys voice, the baby had moved. She told Mary she (Mary) was blessed because she believed the angel.Mary then sang a song where she said she was happy because God had remembered her, and because now all the people in the future would call her blessed. She called Gods name Holy, said Gods forgiveness and mercy went to all those who feared him, and that God also hurt those who were proud in their thoughts, and did the same for kings. God also lifted up the humble and gave the hungry good things, but took away from the rich. She ended by singing how God had been merciful to Israel.When the day came for John to be born he was given the name John, which made family members and neighbors ask why? because there was nobody else in the family with that name. When Zechariah was asked what he thought about this he asked for something to write on, but suddenly he could speak, so he told them the babys name would be John. The people heard this and were amazed, so they spread this news all around all the land.Zechariah then sang a song where he praised God for coming to rescue the people. He said God now brought salvation to his people. Salvation means that those who believe in Jesus will go to heaven, forever. He said God brought protection to Israel from its enemies because He (God) had promised He would. Zechariah then said John would be a prophet who would go ahead and get things ready for Jesus. Jesus would bring us to heaven by getting our sins forgiven. He referred to Jesus as a light who would shine in the darkness of death, and would guide us in the path of peace.When John became a man, he lived in the desert and wore only camel hair clothes and a leather belt. Johns arrival in the desert, as well as his job, was mentioned many years before in Isaiah 40:3, where Isaiah says a man will arrive in the desert and tell everyone to get ready for the arrival of Jesus. The man is described as a voice in the desert, calling. John did just that: he stood in the desert and called; however, for now he was still a baby.In this passage we see that God listens to the prayers of righteous and godly people as Zechariah and Elizabeth had lived humble lives and had prayed many prayers for a child, and now God had answered their prayers. Prayers can get immediate responses from God or can take many years; however, the point is: God answers prayers in His time, in His way, and according to His plan. When we have faith in God we know that it is not important what we want, but the only thing that is important is what God wants, which is always perfect.The Trinity is the grouping together of God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit, who are all one. They are all one being, but also have different parts and responsibilities. How can they all be one, and the one be all three at the same time? This is not for us to understand or worry about, but just to accept. We dont know what is in the middle of the sun, why some eyes are a certain color, of even why we die, because some things are just too big for us to understand; however, God is impossible to understand. What we lack in understanding of God, we can make up for in believing in Him. The unbeliever or the person who is weak in faith will find the Trinity hard to believe, but the believer who is strong in faith will say, Who cares what I know and dont know about God; I believe anyway.We see that God sometimes punishes for disbelief as in when Zechariah refuses to believe that his wife will have a baby, and God leaves him without speech until the baby arrives. When we do not believe or trust God, his punishments are not always as dramatic as in Zechariahs case, but they still happen. Our disbelief can cause us to not get what we ask for, and this is a form of punishment.When Mary visits Elizabeth we learn that God gives mercy to those who fear Him. To fear God is to love, respect and obey Him, and part of this is to forgive and give mercy to those who hurt us in order for God to do the same for us. We also learn that God hurts the proud, because to be proud is to believe that we are something special, or have something special -- which is false, because all things come from God.Mary ends by saying how God raises the humble, feeds the hungry and is merciful to Israel.
Page 3 3. Death is Not the EndDeath is the most overpowering of all subjects: we can go on with our lives, go to work, and have our fun, but death is always there. Just the title of this article, Death: Not the end, has caught your attention. You pass by a cemetery and feel uncomfortable; you think, There are dead bodies there, and they were once, alive. The bodies there were once living people: with families, lives, jobs, hopes, fears, and dreams. They ate, traveled, worried, grew-old and died. How can that be true? How can a person just stop living? We know that they stop breathing, their heart stops, and then their body rots but is that it?God created life; he created death; he created everything so why does death hurt and terrify us? Its because death is beyond our control: with all our learning and technology, we still cant stop it. It doesnt matter who we are and how much power or money we have we just cant stop it.Death disturbs many people because of its ability to humble us, as the rich, the poor, the good, and the bad cannot stop it it finally makes us all, equal.Death reminds us of how little we know, and how little we can accomplish. We can send people to space, control the weather, even kill the whole world, yet death is the same mystery to us now that it was when the world started. It humbles human arrogance. We think that given enough time, we will conquer all things and answer all the riddles of the Universe, but this is wrong: death will always find us.You cannot escape it, but you can control how you perceive it, and how you react to it.Christians and non-Christians react to death in a different way, as the Christian sees it as the final step into eternity, while the non-Christian sees it as a journey into the black unknown, the end pure terror. Further, the Christian eternity is forever its peace, relaxation, sitting next to God, and learning all of His wisdom, while the non-Christians eternity is nothing but one big question mark. The Christian sees death as his reward, and its the door that opens up to the magnificence of heaven, while to the non-believer, death is a violent and unfair drama that ends all things. To him, its a horrible time where he looks back on a wasted or successful and happy life and feels the loneliness and pain of having it now over.However, the reality is that death isnt a dark bitter event, its simply a gateway, and once we pass through this gateway, we enter paradise. Paradise is a word we use to describe the best possible place we can ever understand, but heaven is much more than that. Heaven is perfection, truth, beauty, knowledge; in fact, every moment in heaven is pure delight, and once were there heaven is home. Its a place where we will never get old, sick, tired, bored, sad or lonely and, God, our loving creator, will be there. We will live with Him, Jesus and the Holy Spirit in total peace, forever. There will be vibrant and unearthly colors, textures, sights and sounds that in our wildest imagination we couldnt possibly understand; knowledge that we could never have comprehended before; and there will be love perfect love. Gods love. Its heaven. Is heaven like a tropical sunset on a beautiful South-Pacific island? No, heavens perfect. Is it like a beautiful mountain-top or moonlit evening with a gentle breeze? No, its perfect. These descriptions however beautiful arent even close.As people, we are naturally curious, and try to explain what death and heaven are like. As humans, we should be like a mouse. A mouse doesnt look at the sun and say Why are you round? or Why are you hot? Hes just a mouse. Its the same with us. You cannot possibly visualize heaven, or death; therefore, God doesnt tell you much about them.As mentioned before: heaven is not an end its simply a step, a window, or a door that leads somewhere. Whether it is scary or not is up to us as God did not create us to fear death. With all changes in our lives there is fear, but what follows is always natural and necessary. A lady fears having a baby, but when it arrives, she feels great, and cannot understand why she worried. When a person is in grade school he/she fears going to high-school, but then high-school goes great especially if the individual joins a Christian group in school. The same is true with university.Death reminds us that time is limited. If we thought that we would live on earth forever, then we wouldnt get educated, work, or do anything. Important decisions are made if there is a deadline. Death is our deadline.Real Christians say that when they die, they are going home. They dont call it death. At the moment of death, they are relaxed in their mind and muscles, their blood pressure is low, and they have less of the chemicals which cause stress in their blood. They are at peace with their families, and the world that they are about to leave. They have no regrets, and no bad-feelings towards anyone.Death teaches us of the meaningless of a life without God. In the Bible, King Solomon said that when we look at the dead we must realize that when they died, all of their hate, anger, jealousy, and sadness also died with them. He also said that education was meaningless, because the educated and the fool lie next to each other in death. The same is true of wealth and power. The richest and the poorest person are one day just bones in the ground. The great president and the worst criminal, all lie dead, together. Solomon was the great king and yet when death approached him, he was humbled by it. He realized that God, who controls death, controlled him too.God allows death to be a great drama because He wants you to know that death is forever. You have to get ready for it.People see death as a passage from what they perceive as the light of the known world, to the darkness of the unknown. Death is associated with a dark, creepy cemetery at night. For many, it is also associated with a path into the cold, black darkness of space. Instead, try this way to look at it. You are on a diving board in a totally dark, cold, room. You can see the outline of a pool under the board, you are freezing, and the water looks even more cold, and dangerous. Maybe there is no water at all, maybe its only two inches deep. The diving board represents the point of death and the outline of the pool represents death. It is unknown, cold, dark, and you feel that you are about to fall into something strange and bad. You bounce once, twice, and then you fall in splash. You hit the water and go under: Surprise! It is warm, light, and really soft. It isnt what you thought at all. The event you feared all your life was actually the best moment ever. I think that death is going to be like that.If death is so great then why do we have to live at all? We are part of Gods perfect plan. We are in this life to test us and get us ready for heaven. Heaven is perfection, but before we get there we have to learn humility, forgiveness, tolerance, and yes, sometimes suffering. All these strengthen us, build endurance, and provide us insight into Gods purpose. Life teaches us these things. Death is a reward for those that have lived and died believing in Jesus.People fear death because they believe that it is the moment where they will receive all the punishments they have earned throughout life. Rest assured: Even on the last second you live, if you repent (say youre sorry for all the bad you did), and believe, you will be forgiven and get to heaven.Death tells us we are ready for something better. The life we have here has much sadness, hurt, betrayal and loneliness. Take heart: its only for the moment. A second after we die that all changes, and we get an eternity full of happiness.To see our death as a nothing-body in the ground is wrong. That body is not you; its merely something that carried you through life. Again its not you. God didnt create you to be a body that gets old, has disease, and simply falls apart with age. You are a perfect creation because you were created in Gods image. Think about that. God could have made you a rock, or tree, or even water. He didnt. He created you a living, breathing, thinking and loving human being. Death doesnt kill that. You merely take on your permanent form as a God loved spirit.Death is physically ugly because God wants us to know that there is no turning back.When someone dies we cry. This is because we miss the person. We are afraid, confused, and we see that our own death will soon follow. After you mourn, then please realize if he or she believed in Jesus, then they are in heaven. The person doesnt cry for you; he is happy in heaven. If he was sick or suffering; he is now at peace. He sits with Jesus, and would never want to return. If you want to remember and honor him, then live a good life, trust, repent and most of all believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God.Jesus died violently, and then went up to heaven. He sacrificed His life to prove that death is not the end. The early Christians were murdered by the thousands rather than give up Jesus. They gave up their lives gladly, because they realized earth is not our home we are just visitors here and that death has no power over us.The believers we love on earth, we shall see in heaven. You can see your death as black event or simply a passage to our place of eternal, heavenly, rest.God bless you.
Page 4 4. Evolution: Maybe Your Ancestor was a Monkey, But mine wasn'tThe debate about evolution should have ended many years ago, but it hasnt, why? People talk, debate, and speculate and they listen to many opinions however seldom do they strive to attain the facts. There are too many non-scientific variables that they accept as reality.Lets start at the start. Darwin was not an expert on this or that or anything. Weve all heard his theories about evolution, but did you know that he also said this?To suppose that the eye could have been formed by natural selection, [by accident or chance] seems I freely confess, absurd [totally ridiculous] in the highest degree. If man cannot begin to make a human eye, how could anyone in his right mind think that eyes formed by mere chance? In fact, man cannot make anything from nothing. We dont know how to do it. We can re-create, reform, develop but we cannot create even one grain of sand from nothing. Yet, the eye is only a small part of the most sophisticated part of creation the human body.In specific terms, the human eye has 40,000,000 nerve endings; the muscles that cause the eye to focus move about 100,000 times each day; and the retina has about 136,000,000 light sensitive cells.Darwin was the science officer on a ship that was to map and study the coasts of South-America. Further, the study of animals was not his occupation, and he lacked the knowledge of animals to qualify him as an expert.Less than one-hundred years before Darwins arrival, France had ended their famous Revolution where they had killed the king and overthrown the power of the Catholic Church. These two powers had controlled the though-process, philosophy in fact every aspect of human life in France. With the King and the Catholic Church gone, there was a huge emptiness. What would fill it?With the Kings and churchs censorship out of the way, the people, it was thought, could speak and write freely, which caused new philosophies to take hold; regrettably, many of the philosophers who propounded these ideas were lazy, out of work useless individuals. France had suffered horrendous persecution and censorship under the King; therefore, the new philosophy would need to talk, and be about free and forward moving themes.Under the King, the common person was merely a nothing; which made the new philosophy great because it made the individual feel that he was important. This was the Age of Enlightenment. The philosophers instinctively and opportunistically, knew that Frances society hated the King, the church, and especially, the rich; therefore, any ideas that could discredit the above three would be seen as acceptable.The Catholic Church had always been an enemy of science; moreover, they were violently opposed to heretical anti-Catholic ideas. Among these notions was that the world was round, and that the earth revolved around the sun. Toward that end, they had persecuted and murdered many people who believed in science.The atmosphere was now charged with electricity after the downfall of the Old regime, (the King and church), and science and philosophy were now free to say what they thought, (while selling lots of newspapers doing so). The King and Catholic Church were seen as evil; therefore, anything that spoke the opposite: philosophy and science, were seen as good, and readily acceptable.England and France had always been bitter rivals as well as physical enemies, and at this time, England was watching Frances new free-attitude with much jealousy: If France could have new, and seemingly great, ideas, then so could England!In England, the church was seen as only working for the rich; therefore, any idea that could embarrass or make the church angry, was seen as good. In both countries the church, (not the real Christian church) was seen as a huge and corrupt organization that worked for the rich, and did nothing for the poor.Darwin then arrived on the scene with an idea that the higher forms of life may have evolved from a more primitive life form; therefore, not from God. The university-aged kids liked it, simply because it was different, upset the church and their parents, and was fun to debate. The poor liked it because it gave them a theory that made them feel unique: the idea that the poor would eventually evolve into something better.His theory was immediately accepted as reality especially by the poor because they had no education whatsoever, which made them in awe of everything Darwin said; even though they understood very little of it. The church was understandably outraged, which pleased many, but it didnt offer a response, because it hadnt no scientific response to give. `Further, no response would have been acceptable to both sides because science and the church were not friends, and because they distrusted each other.In all this, the rich were indifferent to the debate because it didnt affect them personally, and the media was happy about the controversy because it sold newspapers.The point is that the debate about evolution came about for social, religious, and monetary reasons; and it was not discussed in any real scientific way. It seemed that the most vocal theorists were accepted as fact, simply because they had something new to say.How valid were Darwins premises? Remember they were premises, that is to say thoughts and hunches not facts. As mentioned before, Darwin speculated that higher forms of life could have descended from a more primitive form of life. This is simply not possible.One of the rules of physics states that energy goes from high to low; in other words, in the universe matter (things, objects) go from their best state to a worse state, through decay. For example: a piece of wood was once a growing tree; then it was a piece of firewood; then it was burned; and finally in its last state, it is ash, (charcoal) and heat. Your glasses are in a high-state now, but in a few years they will be garbage in a garbage dump. The Sun itself will eventually burn out, and just be a lump of dust, or some object like that. All energy in the universe goes to a lesser state. If we accept this as fact, then how can evolution fit in here? Simply put. It cant.Evolution claims that we grow into a higher species, which means that we go up, and not down. If this is true, then we should be getting better sight, stronger bones, taller, and more intelligent, but this is not the case. Over the centuries our eyesight has gotten steadily worse, and continues to get worse; our bones are weaker, were getting shorter, and our immune system hasnt improved. Are we more intelligent? thats questionable, but probably not. We have more information; however, its doubtful whether or not, we cannot absorb much more then we once did.The people from the past seem very primitive in comparison to us now, and according to evolution, we should be living better than the people of the past. In the modern world, we have ozone layer which is almost gone, the deserts are growing, the ice-caps are melting and the earth is heating. Is that all? No, theres more: we have lost our resources, pollution, overpopulation and off-course: war. The poor are getting poorer, and the rich are getting richer; therefore, I cant see how we can think we are evolving into something better.Evolution requires a survival-of-the-fittest ideology. This means that the strongest forms of life will survive, and then the species will be stronger in the future. For example: the weak, sick, and old animals in a particular species will be killed, which will leave the healthy ones for the future. This is wrong. Most species fight to save their babies, old, and sick members. As humans, we have hospitals, old peoples homes, and many organizations to look after the weak; something is encoded into us to look after them. Evolution goes against this by suggesting a cold universe that allows only the powerful to get on top.Evolution claims the earth is billions of years old. The Bible says that the earth and the moon are the same age. NASA measurements show that there is about two inches of dust on the moon, which by calculating the average amount of space dust that lands on the moon each year, suggests the moon is about 6,000 years old. This is very close to what the Bible says.Many evolutionists say that the moon was once in the Pacific Ocean, then it spun off into space, and now it orbits earth. To break away from earths gravity, an object has to travel at greater than 11 miles a minute. To allow the moon to Spin-off from the earth; the earth would have to be spinning at hundreds-of-thousands of turns per day. It only moves at one rotation per day.The animals that are documented in the Bible are the same ones that we have today. They have not changed; moreover, the animals are not in a stage of transition. We dont see beavers that are slowly growing wings or Kangaroos with flippers. A lion is a lion; a monkey is a monkey, a human is a human. Ancient monkey DNA is the same as modern monkey DNA.Evolutionists use time to make their point; they say that given billions and trillions of years anything is possible. That is not true.There is a deserted island. After billions of years the trees get blown down by billions of storms. On the ground there are rocks. Over billions of years the rocks bump into each other and are then changed into saws. After a few billions of years, the saws (formerly rocks) cut the trees into beams. After another billion years, and billions of strong winds, the beams get stuck into the ground and make a house. Lighting strikes the trees on the ground billions of times and makes fire. Then after more billions-of-years, sand falls into the fire, melts, and makes glass. Another billion years of winds, causes the glass to join with the beams. Add to all of this the electricity, wires, and roof and you have a house. Could all this happen by chance? What do you think?The famous statistician, George Gallup stated: I could prove God statistically; take the human body alone; the chance that all the functions of the individual would just happen, is a statistical monstrosity.Much more famous than George Gallup was Albert Einstein. He stated that Everyone who is seriously interested in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the universe a spirit vastly superior to man, and one in the face of which our modest powers must feel humble.Evolution claims that we go form bad to good; from low to high, but, the earth is not doing this. Socially: the world is under great stress. The family unit is disintegrating. In the West, we are not maintaining Zero Population Growth (where one newborn baby replaces one new dead person); therefore, our populations are dropping. In the East, the opposite is the reality. Economically: the world banking and currency systems drift from one crisis to another, with alarming predictability and indifference. In religion, we have the re-emergence of fanaticism and intolerance. With Darwins survival-of-the-fittest, we should be getting rid of our old-bad institutions, archaic policies, illogical ideologies, and ancient hatreds; regrettably, we havent.Creationists, that is to say God believers, have a different idea. A loving God created humans to love, and to love Him. God, with his perfect mind, created us. God has warm emotions and infinite wisdom and power. From this he creates beautiful scenes and colors. The tigers magnificent stripes, the giraffes ostentatious neck, the frothing-churning sea; the elaborate, impossibly-complex human eye; even the rich-warm color of the little butterfly, are all, his creations.The great mathematician and philosopher Pascal was a creationist. This doesnt prove anything but it should make you think.God bless you.

Jesus in the Temple at the age of twelveEach year, Mary Joseph and Jesus went to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover which was held to remember how God brought the people of Israel out of Egypt, where they had been held for hundreds of years as slaves. Once the feast ended, Joseph, Mary and their relatives and friends all traveled back to Nazareth in groups because it was safest to travel that way. While the parents walked and rode donkeys on their route, the children of each family would run and play and stay overnight with the children of other families and nobody would worry about where their children were.After Mary and Joseph had traveled a day, they looked for Jesus among their family and friends, but he wasnt there, so after a continued search, they went back to Jerusalem to find him. They searched for three days until they found him in the Temple, and were shocked to find twelve-year-old Jesus sitting and listening to the wise religious leaders and asking them questions.A small child, sitting amongst these old wise leaders, was impossible to believe: Why would they sit there and speak to a little kid? They knew there was something about him that was not from this world. The leaders were astounded by his questions and answers.Mary asked Jesus why He had made her and Joseph worry about him, but Jesus answered with a question for her: Why did she search for Him in other places? Didnt she know he would be in his Fathers house? She didnt understand, but by this He meant the temple was Gods house, and He was Gods son; therefore, this was the only place He could possibly be found. Jesus knew He was the Son of God.From there they went back to Nazareth and Mary kept all-these beautiful thoughts in her heart. The Bible says Jesus continued to grow in wisdom and height, and he continued to please God and people.
