24. Jesus heals the blind and mute Mathew 9:27
Two blind men followed Jesus and called to Him, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” Asking Jesus to have mercy on them meant they wanted Him to heal them, and calling Jesus “Son of David” was done because Jesus was descended from King David.
When Jesus was inside a house with the two blind men as part of the group, He said to them,” Do you believe I am able to do this?” Jesus wanted to know if their faith was strong enough to make them well. Nobody had ever been cured of blindness or muteness before which meant their faith was high. Muteness means not being able to speak.
“Yes, Lord,” they answered. This was a dramatic moment because they couldn’t see Jesus, which meant their faith was based on a “feeling.”
Jesus then touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith will it be done to you,” and immediately, the men received their sight. From there Jesus told them not to tell anyone what had happened, but the news soon went all around the region. Jesus was humble and didn’t want to show-off that he had healed the men.
When Jesus said, “According to your faith will it be done to you,” He meant that we will receive healing at the same rate as we have faith, which means we are responsible for our own healing through faith in him. With faith, we can move a mountain.
